The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) and Snowy Hydro are pleased to announce an expansion of the Elevate: Boosting diversity in STEM scholarship program.
Snowy Hydro is providing funding for two additional undergraduate students to join the program and receive financial, study and wellbeing and career development support for the full length of their degrees, starting in 2025.
Elevate supports women and non-binary people to study science, technology, enginery and mathematics with a focus on candidates from rural and remote areas and other underrepresented communities.
With foundational funding by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Elevate is providing hundreds of scholarships to university students through a $41.2 million program to 2032.
ATSE is excited to welcome Snowy Hydro, one of Australia’s most well-known and well-loved engineering organisations, as a co-investor in the Elevate program. The scholars supported by Snowy Hydro will have access to the professional engineering mentors, professional development, 24-hour psychosocial wellbeing support and financial support available to all Elevate scholars.
ATSE CEO Kylie Walker said, “ATSE is proud to partner with Snowy Hydro in our common goal of shaping, supporting and skilling up the clean energy workforce of the future. We are excited to be working together to bring new people into STEM at a time when growing a diverse workforce is more important than ever.”
Greater diversity brings bigger and better ideas, experiences and skills. This is central to Elevate and is fundamental for growing a STEM workforce which can deliver the major engineering projects ahead of us, including the national energy transition.
Snowy Hydro CEO Dennis Barnes said, “Providing this support to kick-start two STEM careers is a meaningful way to mark 75 years of the Snowy Scheme and make an important contribution to the skills that will help make the next 75 years possible.”
Snowy Hydro is among a growing list of partners to join the Elevate program and help propel diverse people into STEM studies, careers and leadership. They will provide assessors to help select Elevate scholarship recipients for 2025.
Elevate applications for students commencing studies in 2025 are currently open, and close on the 30th of August.
