The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering welcomes the extension of its nation-leading Elevate: Boosting women in STEM scholarship program to 2032.
Announced by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources today, this Elevate extension comes at the same time as additional significant funding being committed to diversity in STEM programs – including the Science in Australia Gender Equity program, of which ATSE is a founding member.
The extension of the Elevate program will enable scholars starting their studies over the coming years to be supported whether they are studying full-time or part-time. All scholars will be able to receive the complete wrap-around support that has supported 160 scholars to date, with a 98% retention rate.
Elevate’s unique wrap-around supports provide 24-hour psychosocial support, networking, mentoring and skills-building workshops, all on top of the substantial financial support on offer.
Of the current Elevate scholars, 40% are from regional and rural areas, 10% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and about a third come from low SES backgrounds.
The scholar cohort is set to grow significantly over the next few years with successful 2025 scholars to be announced in November this year, as part of at least 500 total scholarships to be distributed through the program.
With foundational funding from the Australian Government through the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Elevate supports women and diverse people to flourish and lead in careers spanning the breadth of Australia’s STEM-powered sectors.
Applications for Elevate scholarships starting in 2025 will be open to the 30th of August 2024. Access the application form online.
ATSE administers and delivers Elevate and is excited to continue to work with our collaborative partners from industry and academia, including the Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Defence Science and Technology Group, as well as ATSE’s Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS).
