Dr Bhatia has pioneered the deployment of nanotechnologies to develop interfaces between living and synthetic systems that overcome size-dependent pathophysiological hurdles to diagnose and treat liver diseases and cancer. The impact of her work spans across disciplines, and enables new biological discovery as well as applied solutions to medical problems - all in areas that were previously refractory to controlled experimental study. Overall, her work has advanced the forefront of tissue engineering, organ regeneration technologies, cancer detection, malaria pathogenesis, and preclinical drug evaluation, among others.
