Peter Corke is a pioneer in the development and application of robotics control, following early pioneering in wireless sensor networks. He is recognised for Visual servoing, a fundamental technique in robotic control and for creating a subfield within robotics that enables robots to interact with the environment without precise knowledge of the world and without precise calibration, and more recently in quadcopters, an important type of unmanned aerial vehicle. He has a leading record in teaching in two innovative ways, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) and the most downloaded robotics software toolbox.
