Following a career in neuroscience research, Lyn was appointed Chief Scientist of Western Australia from 2006 to 2013 advising the WA Government on science, innovation and technology. Lyn continues to promote science and equity with a special focus on young people, an aim boosted when Lyn was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia and was named the WA Australian of the Year for 2015.

Professor Beazley's research in neurotrauma will influence therapeutic approaches to induce functional repair and has led to current Australia-wide trials of training regimes for neurotrauma victims. Collaborative research with obstetricians has changed clinical practice world-wide for corticosteroid use to protect babies at risk of pre-term delivery. Research into Australian marsupials has revealed a totally unexpected ability to see the widest range of colours of any mammals including humans, with implications for conservation strategies. As WA's Chief Scientist, the nominee has achieved outstanding success in the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics within political, scientific, educational and lay communities.
