Professor Kadambot Siddique AM FTSE Hackett Chair in Agriculture and Director
Prof Siddique has more than 35 years’ experience in agricultural research, teaching and management in Australia and overseas. He has developed a national and international reputation in agricultural science especially in the fields of crop physiology, production agronomy, farming systems, genetic resources, breeding research in cereal, grain and pasture legumes and oilseed crops. Professor Siddique’s publications are considered as key papers in the above fields and are widely cited. These publications include numerous highly cited papers on adaptation, physiology and genetics of crops to dryland environments. Professor Siddique was awarded the Western Australian Premier’s Scientist of the Year Award in 2023.

Professor Siddique is nationally and internationally recognised for new understanding on the adaption of cereals and pulses, the application of the understating for the benefit of the pulse industry in Australia, West Asia and South Asia, and his leadership of the Centre for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture, a centre recognised nationally and internationally for its contribution to basic and applied legume science. He has played a key role in introducing, evaluating and the commercial release of superior lines of six chickpea cultivars, two lentil cultivars and two Lathyrus species. For his contribution to agriculture science and industry in Australia he was awarded the prestigious Urrbrae Award.
