Dr Söderbaum has worked at the intersection of research, commercialisation and public policy for over 40 years. He has a strong interest in topics such as: - the impact and value of research; - climate change; - new and emerging energy technologies (including hydrogen); and - policy and program evaluation.

Dr Söderbaum demonstrates brilliantly that rare ability to bridge the valley between emerging science and its potential for commercial application of national worth in the energy and environmental domains. His deep knowledge of and insights into the long term potential for new fields of technological science, the research and development needed to develop that potential commercially and the policy instruments required to create the necessary pathways, are unparalleled. He has ably demonstrated his ability to contribute to technological advancement in the diverse but related fields of the hydrogen economy, the uranium fuel cycle, nanotechnology, carbon capture and sequestration and renewable energy technologies.
