Professor Jarlath Ronayne has an outstanding record of achievement in management of tertiary institutions dealing with the technological sciences, and in research on policy · relating to the interface between technology and society.
As Pro Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of New South Wales between 1984 and 1991, he carried through significant changes in budgeting and personnel management and personally championed the establishment of world-class facilities in scientific instrumentation. Since his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the Victorian Institute of Technology, he has guided the development of a new technological institution. As Director of the Science Policy Research Centre at Griffith University, and then as Professor of Science Policy at UNSW, he led the way developing science and technology policy as an important area of research and education in Australia directed to national interests.
