Professor Ian Frazer recieved international recognition for his work on human papilloma virus (HPV) research and vaccine development over the past 15 years. He holds a personal chair of medicine at the University of Queensland and is Director of the Centre for Immunology and Cancer Research. Frazer devised a method for engineering papilloma virus-like particles which have formed the basis for development of the first successful preventative and therapeutic vaccine candidates against HPV16, the most common oncogenic type of HPV associated with cancer of the cervix.
