Following his own initial experiments, Professor Graeme Clark has led a diverse team in the development of a multi-channel multi-electrode cochlear implant to bring hearing to profoundly deaf children and adults. The device has been suc­cessfully commercialised in Australia by Cochlear Ltd and leads the world in this field. It has been successfully implanted into more than 15,000 people worldwide and gives speech recognition ability even to children who have been deaf from birth.

Professor Clark continues to lead developments in this area and is also working on other related devices.
