Professor Doug MacFarlane is a world leader in the discovery and technology of new organic materials that are of use in a range of advanced applications including batteries, capacitors, lubricants, corrosion protection, solvent extraction and drug delivery and that are now in production commercially by suppliers worldwide. He has developed, in collaboration with Australian institutions and companies, breakthrough technologies based on these materials including high stability electrolytes for improved safety in lithium batteries, polymer based catalysts to replace platinum catalysts in fuel cells, chlorine free water recycling technology and drug delivery media for protein based therapeutics.
