Professor David Taubman is an outstanding inventor and entrepreneur whose pioneering work has greatly advanced the field of media compression technology, most especially via the JPEG 2000 suite of international standards for image compression. His research and subsequent commercialisation have had a transformative impact on industry practice, both nationally and internationally. Moreover, the level of respect he enjoys in his field – as well as across industry and the tertiary sector – is clear from his long-term service to international standards bodies, extensive industry collaborations, and long list of senior roles. He would be an exceptional, influential addition to the Fellowship.
