Chris Vonwiller is a recognised leader in the development and commercialisation of advanced technology. He is the co-founder and former Chairman of Appen (ASX:APX), a global leader in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Prior to Appen, Chris served for 20 years in senior executive positions with the Australian telecommunications carrier Telstra Corporation Limited, playing a leading role in the development and deployment of innovative internet services, multimedia, and pay television. Chris was a foundation member of the board of Intelsat Limited, the world’s leading telecommunications satellite company, and was elected President and Chairman of the Pacific Telecommunications Council.

Biography at time of election

An outstanding leader for over 30 years in International Telecommunications & Advanced ICT products and services, playing a major role in the technical and commercial evolution of OTC and Telstra, particularly in leading the team that created and introduced Telstra Big Pond; in leading the creation and commercial success of Appen Pty Ltd, an Australian company that has become a global leader in speech and language technology, and won Australian and NSW Exporter of the Year awards; as a distinguished Australian representative on important International bodies, including Intelsat and the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation; and as Chairman and President of the Pacific Telecommunications Council.
