Dr Pigram has made an outstanding contribution to a range of national strategic issues through his leadership in the field of geoscience including major achievements in marine geoscience, minerals and energy exploration, groundwater management and natural hazards. In particular, this work has included a major contribution to the evidence base for Australia?s Marine Jurisdictional claim at the United Nations.

He brings to the Academy an extensive knowledge and experience of Australian geology and the use of science in support of wide-scale policy development.
