Professor Chris Matthews is nationally and internationally renowned as a leader in mathematics education for Indigenous learners. He has made exceptional contributions to Indigenous education in mathematics by creating new pedagogical approaches that acknowledge the cultural challenges faced by Indigenous mathematics students. He has also made highly impactful cross-cultural contributions working with remote Indigenous communities while positively influencing national mathematics education policy and curricula at both State and National levels.
