Alan Trounson AO: PhD, MSc, FRCOG, FATSE, FAHMS; Emeritus Professor Monash University

He was a pioneer of human in vitro fertilisation (IVF) (1977-1996) and led the Australian team in the discovery of human embryonic stem cells in the late 1990’s. He was Deputy Director of the Monash Institute of Reproduction and Development 1990-2004, CEO of the Australian Stem Cell Centre, and Director Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories 2003-2006; President of the Californian Institute for Regenerative Medicine (2007-2014); Presently (2015-), founding CEO of Cartherics Pty Ltd. Professor Trounson was the scientific force behind the development of invitro fertilisation (IVF) and embryo biopsy as standard therapies for human infertility and inheritable monogenetic diseases. President of the CIRM, and formerly a long-term Monash University researcher Professor Trounson led the development of the National Stem Cell Centre in Melbourne.
