The Academy’s Board comprises the President, eight elected Fellows, the CEO and, from time to time, a Director elected by the Board.
The Board also establishes systems and processes to safeguard and manage the resources of the Academy within its stated objectives, vision, mission and goals. Good governance is the responsibility of the Directors, who have the duty and power to manage the affairs of the Academy both in terms of compliance and performance.

Dr Cathy Foley AO PSM was Australia’s ninth Chief Scientist from January 2021 until 2024. Prior to this Dr Foley had a long career at Australia’s national science agency, the CSIRO, including as the agency’s Chief Scientist. Dr Foley is an internationally recognised physicist with major research achievements in superconductors and sensors which led to the development of the LANDTEM sensor system to locate valuable deposits of minerals deep underground.

Leeanne Bond is respected engineering leader with a passion for business, innovation, sustainability and decarbonisation. She has a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and MBA from The University of Queensland and is an Independent Non-Executive Director and Board Chair. She is currently a non-executive director of Aurecon Limited, Snowy Hydro Limited, Entyr Limited (ASX:ETR) and One Basin CRC.

Professor Ken Baldwin was the inaugural Director of the ANU Energy Change Institute (now the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions) and founding Director of the ANU Grand Challenge: Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific. His main focus is to help drive the energy transition, particularly for Australia’s future export industries based on renewable energy. He is also a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the Institute of Physics (UK), Optica (formerly the Optical Society of America) and the Australian Institute of Physics, and winner of the 2004 Eureka Prize for initiating Science meets Parliament.

Emeritus Professor Anne Green has more than 30 years experience in strategic leadership and management in the university sector. She holds a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of Melbourne and a PhD from the University of Sydney. Subsequently, she was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Radioastronomy (Germany).

Professor Paul Wood has over thirty years’ experience in R&D and been successful as a research scientist, an R&D leader and entrepreneur. He has led R&D teams from CSIRO, CSL and Pfizer Animal Health (now Zoetis) and was Deputy-Director of the Vaccine Technology CRC.

Stuart Khan is Professor and Head of School of Civil Engineering at the University of Sydney. He has published over 200 peer reviewed journal articles on issues relating to water quality and treatment, including drinking water, wastewater, recreational water, environmental water systems, water recycling and desalination.

Renowned for research in the infrastructure and composites industry, Professor Sarah Zhang has led more than 50 projects focused on advanced materials and composite structures. Her work includes the breakthrough development of green and water-resistant magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) in partnership with UBIQ Technology, creating a formulation that revolutionised the cement’s applications outdoors as well as indoors.
