Groundbreaking medial research delivers for all Australians.

Our health and wellbeing depend on the work of our outstanding medical researchers. At this luncheon, hear about groundbreaking developments in genomics, telehealth and the increasing application of AI in the medical field, presented by leaders in their fields.

Genomics – the study of an organism’s complete set of DNA, including all its genes, their interactions and influence on disease – is increasingly recognised as vital to our health, particularly in relation to inherited diseases and cancers. A/Professor Ness Tyrrell, Program Director of the ZERO Childhood National Cancer Program, is a leader in genomics with over 30 years of experience across all disciplines of genetic testing and research. She will speak from her broad experience in the implementation of genomics and application of rapidly emerging genomic technologies in healthcare for all Australians, and for childhood cancer in particular.

Telehealth - the management of chronic diseases at home - is becoming an increasingly important part of our health system. But how effective is telehealth? Professor Branko Celler FTSE will provide an update and address this question. He will review the CSIRO/NBN National Telehealth Trial, in which he and his team at UNSW played a vital role. The results are remarkable. For example, telehealth resulted in a reduction of 46% in medical expenditure, 53% in unscheduled hospital admissions and 41% in mortality.  But what are the risks?

AI is of growing interest across healthcare, and both speakers will discuss the impacts, benefits and challenges of AI in their respective research fields.

We are fortunate to have Anne O’Neill FTSE PSM, Chief Commercial Officer, ANDHealth, introduce the event and moderate the session.

This is an event not to be missed.
